Community Organizations

If your organization serves women or has women specific programming, you have the ability to include HIV prevention messaging and education in your agency. Providing your women clients with this information can help them to protect themselves and find the support they need in making healthy choices in their relationships.

Suggestions on incorporating HIV messaging

Here are a few suggestions for you to use in your own organization:

  • Have women specific HIV information and education material available in your waiting rooms, support rooms, at events, and in your office to hand out
  • Provide clients with access to condoms and female condoms, either in washrooms or waiting rooms, or your reception area
  • Encourage your clients to go for HIV anonymous testing if they are having sex
  • Educate yourself and your staff. Provide opportunities for staff to participate in HIV education training so they are aware of the issues women face and know where to refer their clients if they need help or support

Community Opportunities

Our new program will not only allow us to respond to women's growing needs in the area of HIV and AIDS, but will allow us as a community to work together to strengthen our partnership and commitment to improving women's health.

There are several community initiatives we are working on to help address the needs of women in our community. If you or your organization are interesting in getting involved, please call Cheryl at 519-763-2255 ext. 150 or e-mail communitydevelopment@aidsguelph.org.
